Slices with Surveyors

A micro-grant program connecting undeclared students to the surveying profession.

Slices with Surveyors helps surveying programs start the conversation.

Through small, flexible micro-grants, we fund on-campus events, like pizza nights, for undeclared students. The goal is simple: create a relaxed, welcoming environment where students can meet surveying faculty and current majors, ask questions, and discover a profession they may not have considered.

No long pipeline.
No waiting years for results.
Just real conversations with students who are ready to choose a major today.

Slices with Surveyors Program is funded and sponsored by NCEES.

How the Program Works

Slices with Surveyors operates on a micro-grant basis.

Eligible surveying programs may apply to receive funding to host an on-campus outreach event targeting undeclared students.

What Awarded Programs Receive

  • $250 gift card (VISA, Uber Eats, or similar)
To cover food and event-related expenses.
  • Promotional materials and giveaways
To help introduce students to the surveying/geomatics profession.
  • Recognition as a participating Slices with Surveyors program

Programs may apply once per semester.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants include:

  • Colleges and universities offering a surveying, geomatics, or closely related program
  • Programs that can host an on-campus event specifically targeting undeclared students
  • Faculty or designated program representatives willing to coordinate and report on the event

Programs may apply once per academic semester.

What Makes a Strong Event?

While pizza nights are encouraged (they work!), programs are welcome to be creative. Strong proposals will:

  • Clearly target undeclared or exploratory students
  • Include faculty and current surveying students
  • Provide a brief introduction to the profession and program
  • Create opportunities for informal Q&A and conversation
  • Outline a simple plan for promotion on campus

Application Process

Applications are submitted online and should include:

  • Institution and program information
  • Event concept and format
  • Brief promotional plan
  • Proposed event date
  • Estimated attendance
  • Primary contact information

Funding decisions will be made on a rolling basis until annual funds are fully awarded.
